The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of yoga on sleep quality and perceived stress in pregnant women. The longitudinal design was used in the study. Twenty-five healthy primiparas with singleton in their gestational age of 10-32 weeks were recruited by purposive sampling from yoga studio and gynecology clinic in Taichung. There were eleven participants in the experimental group and fourteen participants in the control group. The experimental group attended prenatal yoga class 60 minutes per day, 1-2 days per week for 8 consecutive weeks. The control group maintained normal daily life pattern through research period. Two dependent variables were measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). The assessments were conducted at baseline (Time 1), forth week (Time 2) and eighth week (Time 3). Statistical analyses applied mixed-design two-way ANOVA. Result: Main effect of group on sleep quality was significant, effect size was .068, suggesting that sleep quality of experiment group was better than control group. The interaction effects of group and test on sleep quality and perceived stress were not statistically significant. Total perceived stress scores of experiment group decreased through gestational period without statistical significance. Conclusion: Pregnant women who practice yoga regularly had better sleep quality. The research’s results suggest that healthy pregnant women without yoga experience and have sleep disturbance or feel stressed can practice yoga thirty to sixty minutes weekly after their gestation age reach twelve weeks.
