Purpose: Taiwan has become an “aging society” in 2018. With the advancement of medicine and improvement of service quality, the average life expectancy has been extended. Most of the elderly people are still healthy and can make contributions to society. However, for a long time, society regarded the elderly as old, weak, and sick, which restricted the development of the elderly. Therefore, through the “Sports in Taiwan” in Tainan, we explored the mentality and influence of seniors for becoming peer-led exercise participants. Methods: This study used a qualitative research study. Individuals were interviewed by the person in charge and eight of senior sports volunteers who have passed the assistant’s license examination for senior health promotion. A focus group interview was conducted with the seven of senior exercisers and five assistants who joined this program. The interview data were analyzed with active aging theory and the concept of peer-lead. Results: This research summed up seven concepts by combining active aging and peer-led theories to explore the process of senior sports volunteers in peer-led exercise: (1) be healthy before serving others, (2) personal safety starts with health, (3) contact with people and society continuously, (4) live an independent and dignified life, (5) to live and learn, (6) friendly senior society and policies, and (7) the experience of senior peer-led exercise. Conclusion: The process of the senior sports volunteers obtaining their licenses and the peer-led exercise enhanced their sports professions and self-confidence. Moreover, they learned how to present proper posture and instruct others’ knowledge of health. Senior volunteers can better understand the needs of the elderly during the teaching process. In conclusion, we found that “being empathetic” and “putting yourself in someone else’s shoes” and “the same dialect (same language)” are irreplaceable for senior sports volunteers. Taiwan has become an aging society. This process will make full use of the society’s precious senior resources if the government can promote long-term cultivating courses and license examinations for senior volunteers in the future.
