中文摘要 遊戲產業的劇烈成長已經成為一個全球現象,其重要性更是隨著時間不斷增長。過去在90年代,台灣有世界第三高的遊戲產值,僅次於美國和日本。但在短短十年之內,榮景不復存在,甚至被韓國和中國超越。儘管造成此局面的理由十分複雜,但數位內容產業報告和遊戲從業者皆指出一個重要的問題,即台灣在原創IP創作的能力不佳,該問題需得到正視才得以改善台灣遊戲產業的窘境。

相較於商業遊戲業者專注於遊戲代理業務,獨立遊戲開發者在台灣扮演原創內容創作之重要角色,其崛起或許對能產業缺乏原創IP的困境帶來改變。但儘管獨立遊戲和具備高額開發和行銷成本之AAA級遊戲比較相對低廉許多,但遊戲開發本身仍是需要長時間投入且高風險的過程,鑑此仍有多數的遊戲開發者在遊戲開發途中便因無法維持而中斷開發,進而沒有產出具價值的遊戲IP。獨立遊戲在台的成功案例數量仍十分有限,本研究以創業生態系框架針對整體產業構成角度深入探討研究,並以要素之間之互動瞭解其運作模式,及其不足之處。

透過問卷調查、半結構式及深度訪談,本研究1) 首先調查目前台灣獨立遊戲開發者在遊戲開發及後續行銷推廣等不同階段所面臨的難題,同時 2) 調查目前台灣現存的創業網絡在提供支持以協助獨立遊戲開發者進行開發時,所面臨的難題以及限制。3) 最後本研究透過創業生態系統為架構,探討創業生態圈中不同單位之間的相互關係、以及其效果是否足以支撐整個獨立遊戲產業,使該產業能永續發展,提出相關建議。
英文摘要 The enormous growth of the video game industry is global phenomenon and it is gaining significant importance day by day. Back in the 90s, Taiwan had the third highest video game output, only surpassed by the United States and Japan. But within a decade, it was being outperformed by Korea and China. Whereas there are complicated reasons for this, both digital content industrial reports and specialists have concluded that the inability to create IP (Intellectual Property) is important to the gaming industry in Taiwan and needs to be ameliorated. The rise of the independent game development could be a game-changing shift of the gaming industry in Taiwan. Despite the requirement of an independent game development is much lower than the AAA rated games, the process is still a time-consuming and risk-taking process. Due to insufficient support, a large number of independent game developers could not sustain themselves.
A pilot study was first conducted through semi structured interview and literature review, to identifying the current facing challenges for independent game developers in Taiwan. Secondly, this study investigates if existing entrepreneur networks provides sufficient support to assist independent developers via the questionnaires. Finally, this study examines the existing entrepreneurial networks to gain understanding of its limitation toward supporting the indie development. This was done in order to investigate how the current networks could become more interconnected and sustainable, and bring up the suggestions for the development of independent gaming industry in Taiwan.
