英文摘要 ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between beliefs toward medication and long-term medication adherence behavior, along with other predictors of medication adherence in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Indonesia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with convenience sampling method was performed. A Pearson’s correlation test and linear regression model was used to identify medication beliefs on long-term medication taking behavior, as assessed by the responses of patients following PCI, to the Bahasa version of the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) that predicts medication adherence behavior and its relationship with medication beliefs.
Results: A total of 132 patients following PCI involved in this study. Majority of the respondent were male (85.6%) and Minangkabau people (91.7%) with the average age was 60 years (SD ± 9.46). Higher scores in specific-concerns and general-overuse were associated with low levels of adherence (r = -.19 p < .05; r = -.30, p < .01 respectively). In further analysis, only general-overuse was found to be a predictor of long-term medication adherence (R2 = 0.062, p < .05). Moreover, none of the demographic data and other clinical factors was related to medication taking behavior in patients following PCI in Indonesia.
Conclusion: Elucidating the potential predictor of medication adherence behavior in patients post PCI will avail new perspectives in health care providers about patients’ adherence to medication for better understanding the long-term medication adherence behavior of patients following PCI in Indonesia.
