中文摘要 近年,敘事開始滲透到老年學研究與社會工作實踐現場,形成敘事老年學領域。更明確的說,它是作為老化研究的一種啟發,注重與連結老化本身過程與所探討的主題。西方已有文獻以McAdams生命敘事(life narrative)理論進行敘事與老年人復原力的相關研究,但台灣過去少有相關研究。近年來,在世界衛生組織(WHO)倡議健康老化(healthy ageing)的過程中,老年人的復原力受到重視。在活躍老化、成功老化之後,WHO於2015年全球老化與健康報告(World report on ageing and health)提出健康老化的新觀念並強調復原力對老年人的重要性。根據WHO定義,健康老化是發展和維護老年福址(well-being),包括老年人的幸福、滿足和成就感所需的功能發揮之過程,復原力(resilience)在達成健康老化目標扮演關鍵角色,它能讓個人面對逆境時,透過抗壓、恢復或適應,維持或促進功能發揮。因而,本研究期能透過敘事老年學的生命傳記面向,探索高齡者的復原力經驗與個案對應逆境的脈絡,提供更具豐富細節的健康老化之復原力見解。本研究共訪談十位研究參與者的老化歷程,年齡為68-99歲,男性5名,女性5名,個案大部份經歷過兩次以上生命重大壓力事件,以McAdams & Bowman(2001)生命故事訪問(the life story interview)探索研究參與者的復原力經驗。採質性研究,用William Labov敘事結構分析與歸納在華人文化價值體系下,敘事之於提升老年人復原力的可能性。
研究結果發現,當個案在敘述生命歷程重大事件都會主動提及其所帶來的意義,以及過程中的轉化,符合敘事治療的「自我認同藍圖」與「行動藍圖」,並透過事件或環境的挑戰,理解內在的自我,發展出自我認同。從另一層面,故事如何被敘說是研究參與者回首來時路的反思,體現人是自己生活意義的詮釋者,本身的能力、信念、價值觀有助於改變,正是健康老化所重視的復原力。
英文摘要 In recent years, the value of the narrative process has begun to penetrate gerontology research as well as social work practice, creating the field of narrative gerontology. The approach has inspired ageing studies that focus on and link the aging process to a discussion theme. Western research literature includes many studies that have utilized McAdams's life narrative theory to conduct research on the elderly, centering on resilience. But there have been few related studies in Taiwan. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to interview older adults who have experienced significant stress events such as illness, widowhood, and the death of family members. Our study used McAdams & Bowman’s life story interview model to explore the participants’ experiences with resilience. We interviewed 10 participants, aged from 65 to 99 years. Five were male, and five were female; most had experienced more than two major life stress events. To explore coping with adversity, which encompasses not only reflection on action but the action itself, this narrative analysis adopted the Labov's narrative structure model. This allowed the researchers to analyze the possibility of narrative knowing, about healthy ageing, in particular concerning the enhancement of resilience according to the Chinese cultural value system. The study found that when participants tell life stories focusing on how to face adversity, they mention the meaning of life and self-transformation in overcoming difficulties. This conclusion is consistent with narrative therapy’s concepts of the "landscape of consciousness" and the "action blueprint.” Through challenges emerging from events or environments, participants realized their inner selves and developed their identities. On the other hand, the participants’ abilities, beliefs, and values helped them to change their lives, which is why concepts of healthy ageing attach importance to resilience.
