The magneto-resistive magnetometer (MRM) has been developed at the Plasma and Space Science Center of National Cheng Kung University. The MRM is made of anisotropic magneto-resistive (AMR) sensor chips, which have appealing features of small size (25 mm × 20 mm × 15 mm), light weight (25 grams) and low power consumption (120 mW). The MRM and a fluxgate magnetometer, a Langmuir probe, an ion energy analyzer, a neutral particle analyzer, and a sun aspect sensor will be deployed in the Sounding Rocket Experiment #10 mission, which is supported by National Space Organization of Taiwan.
In this thesis we present the operating principle of anisotropic magnetoresistive sensor, the design of the MRM system, the calibration of MRM with the fluxgate magnetometer, and the temperature test of the MRM. The MRM system is designed to measure small variations of low frequency and DC magnetic field thus providing additional information on the Earth’s ionosphere at low latitudes.
