The purpose of this study was to explore the travel experience of the older adults with visual impairment, and the social-constructed factors which influenced their travel experience.Twelve older adults with visual impairment were recruited, and the inclusion criteria were aged above 60 years old and the degree of visual impairment were about moderate or severe levels. Semi-structured interview was used to collect data, with the interview guidelines including their past travel experiences, travel motivation, travel arrangement, and the strait they faced during travelling. Data analysis was based the strategy of grounded theory. Six themes were identified. (1) adjustment of disease as the foundation of travelling, (2) travel experience and meaning, (3) the role of travel companion, (4) the challenge of offering services in travel agency, (5) Environmental barriers, and (6) attitude from the general population and the government. Travel experience among the older adults with visual impairment was influenced by their subjective feelings but also physical environments, interpersonal relationships, and social attitude from the general population. Therefore, they have to adapt the barriers from environments, travel agency, and social attitude. These findings would be helpful to improve accessible tourism services and enhance social awareness for the travel of the older adults with visual impairment.
