The target subject in this study is Zhang Xian and his Ci-poetry. By adopting “Aesthetics of Reception” in the West and referring to readers’ acceptance and responses in all the past dynasties, the researcher explored the literature position and aesthetic value of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry in the atmosphere of different eras. This study is divided into six chapters. The main ideas of each chapter are presented as follows:
Chapter one “Introduction”: the motivation, purpose, scope, and method of this study are expounded.
Chapter two “The spread reception of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry”: based on the circulation and disclosure of all editions of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry in all the past dynasties, the similarities and differences between the layouts of different editions of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry and the interaction between Zhang Xian's and others’ Ci-poetry are explored. In addition, quantitative method is used to analyze, generalize, and organize the selections and stave of ci-poetry in all the past dynasties in order to understand the aesthetic orientation and acceptance effects of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry from the selected publication of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry.
Chapter three “The creation reception of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry ”: The research of Ci-poets in all the past dynasties on the rhyme, imitates plans, and poem of Zhang Xian's works is discussed, including both synchronous and asynchronous reception. On one hand, the acceptance level of creators in all the past dynasties is discussed based on the system of works and the style of the content. On the other hand, Zhang Xian's works are taken as the focus of discussion to explore and analyze the features of receiving group in all the past dynasties, the cause of reception, and the situation of growth and decline.
Chapter four “The criticism reception of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry - Song Dynasty to Ming Dynasty”: based on the generalization and analysis of criticism of ci-poetry, criticism of poetry, literary notes, introduction of ci-poetry, and criticism, five aspects of criticism on Zhang Xian in Song Dynasty to Ming Dynasty are elaborated, including Zhang Xian's life anecdotes, the overall style of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry, the achievement of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry “Three-shadows”, the artistry of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry, and the investigation and correction of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry.
Chapter five“The criticism reception of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry - Qing Dynasty” : based on the generalization and analysis of criticism of ci-poetry, criticism of poetry, literary notes, introduction of ci-poetry, and criticism, four aspects of criticism on Zhang Xian in Qing Dynasty are elaborated, including Zhang Xian's life anecdotes, the overall style of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry, the achievement of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry, the artistry of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry, and the criticism reception of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry by rhyme.
Chapter six“Conclusion”: the main points of the spread, creation, and criticism reception on Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry in all the past dynasties are summarized. Moreover, the features and position of Zhang Xian's Ci-poetry in all the past dynasties are generalized.
