中文摘要 本研究針對車用衛星導航系統的介面設計,探討性別差異是否影響良好介面設計的定義。交通部歷年統計資料顯示,女性開車的比例從1998年19.4%增加至2006年的29.9%。科技產品設計、運輸規劃向來並非性別中立,傳統皆假設使用者對產品需求、價值感、偏好及使用行為有高度同質性。當女性駕駛愈來愈多時,這些假設變得過時且不合理。性別差異會影響尋找路徑時採用的策略,男性運用歐幾里得策略,也就是採用方位與距離來尋找路徑;而女性則使用地標策略,即運用左右轉來辨別位置。女性一般在找路的過程中,其焦慮程度、不確定比男性高,因此有效的運輸規劃與產品設計可解決此現象,同時,由於車用衛星導航配置的小型顯示器介面會增加記憶力、注意力與心智的負擔,造成行車安全的疑慮,在小螢幕呈現的資訊內容必須讓駕駛人能迅速理解、減少分心的可能。本研究應用實驗設計,探討性別在操作車用衛星導航系統上的差異,以及這些差異對介面設計的意涵。本研究之結果為建議女性適用的介面是具有返回目的地與目錄之按鍵,而男性適用之路徑規劃介面,為先找出地點再將其設為起終點的方式,藉由任務求救與問卷填答驗證男性的使用信心高於女性,以及男性使用車用衛星導航系統之滿意度高於女性的論點。
英文摘要 This thesis integrates the interface design of portable navigation devices with genders, analyzes the intelligent living space needed by different genders, and discusses whether the differences between genders has an impact on the definition of a good interface design that should be provided. According to the statistics given by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications over the years, the proportion of female drivers increased from 19.4% in 1998 to 29.9% in 2006. Technological products, engineering designs and transportation planning have not historically been gender neutral. Traditionally, the assumption has been that users or travelers are relatively homogeneous in their needs, values, preferences, and behaviors. These assumptions are becoming increasingly unrealistic and outdate, however, as women become increasingly motorized. Studies show that gender differences exist in the strategy of path searching. Males apply Euclidean strategy, adopting position and distance to search paths, while females use landmark strategy, employing left or right direction to tell the position. Generally, females are more anxious than males when they are searching routes. Females also show a greater degree of uncertainty. Effective transportation planning and product designs need to understand women’s driving behaviors and modes and guarantee products can meet women’s needs. This thesis employs an experimental design to investigate the differences between male and female operation of portable navigation devices, and the implication of these differences on interface design. In addition, the small display size installed in portable navigation devices also adds burden to the facets of memory, attention, and mind, causing user doubts. The results of this thesis determine that manufacturers should develop interfaces to fit portable navigation devices according to gender.
