The issues about innovation were widely discussed in academia and practice, where from quality’s perspective to investigate the innovation is one of them. If the innovation achieves customer satisfactions and promotes business performances, it is called “innovation quality.”
Previous researches focused on the relationships between business performances and the quality or business performances and the innovation rather than to study the relationships among them simultaneously. The main objective of this study is to investgate on the relationships among quality practices, innovation quality and business performances in auto industry to analyze the ways to improve innovation quality, and the correlations between quality practices and innovation quality. In addition, this research also explored how the quality practices and innovation quality affect business performance.
Literature review is provided to study the relationships between quality management, innovation management, and business performances and to propose outline of the dimensions and the measurements. A questionnaire survey is designed to assess the situation in auto industry.
It is shown that quality practices have impact on the various dimensions of innovation quality. For instance, the quality system constructed by ISO/TS 16949 has positive influences on all three dimensions of innovation quality yet the adoption of 5S can only improve the business dimension of innovation quality. In terms of the correlation of innovation quality and business performances, the results show that only the process dimension of innovation quality stimulates business performances to grow. It is found out that there is no significant impact on business performances through quality practices. This study therefore suggests the enterprises to adopt the quality practices appropriately on those can strengthen the innovation quality, and to enhance the business performances thereafter.
