The author would like to re-study and position the Taiwanese writer Weng Nao and distinguishing feature of his works by this thesis, and also collects related document in Japan in order to make clear Weng Nao’s life and his new found works, as well as the relation between the Neo-Sensationists in Japanese and Taiwanese literary circles in that time.
By reviewing the researching reason made by predecessors, it can know it didn’t make a complete survey of Weng Nao’s creating history in former arguments. Currently, there is only one thesis, “New Literary in Taiwan in the Period Governed by Japan－Focus on Weng Nao’s Works”, about Weng Nao wrote by Yi-Yi Li, for the master degree of Graduate Institute of Japanese, Soo-Chow University. In past ten years, there are some short papers discussing Weng Nao and his works, but no thesis make an emphasis on Weng Nao’s works. As everyone knows, there is no one to make a thesis for Weng Nao since a few related documents about Weng Nao! Being a Japanese, however, the author is very interesting in research of Weng Nao’s marvelous life. The author will summarize researching results made by the predecessors and have a foothold on these results, therefore, it can analyze Weng Nao’s works in a view of comparative literary of Taiwan and Japan.
In order to find out more information about Weng Nao, the author went to Weng Nao’s school, Taichung Normal College, to look for Weng Nao’s recognized status as a student and related document in his student period to make deep understanding of Weng Nao’s background in Taiwan. On the other hand, it also tried to present the condition when Weng Nao studied in Tokyo, such as some Japanese literary authors communicating with Weng Nao in Tokyo, and collect the status in Japanese literary circles in that time. Therefore, it can see the Weng Nao’s life and literary activities in Japan, and fill up current insufficient research of Weng Nao in Japan literary activities.
The another important part of this thesis is to evaluate the influence of Neo-Sensationism of Japanese literary trend to Taiwanese literary circles, and redefine the relation between Japanese Neo-Sensationism and the features of Weng Nao’s works. It also analyze the communication and influence of Japanese Neo-Sensationism to Chinese and Taiwanese literary circles in that time by the method of regional research and comparative research, and position Weng Nao in the literary history.
In the aspect of analyzing features of Weng Nao’s novels, it uses the Stylistism of Japanese literary to analyze Weng Nao’s related works. The Stylistism is mainly to analyze the difference and temperament of writers. The author will more deeply understand the content of Japanese Stylistism in order to include the features of Weng Nao’s works, and also introduce related documents of Japanese literary history to interpret Weng Nao’s texts by Stylistism in order to use related research of Japan to fill up the insufficiency of information about Weng Nao for emphasizing more different views and angels of Taiwanese researchers.
Furthermore, this thesis will use the new found medium-length novel, “Streets with a Port” planed by Huang De-Shi as he served as the editor of he literature and art page of “Taiwan New People Newspaper” and published in the literature and art page of “Taiwan New People Newspaper” from July 1939, as the Chapter I of “New Medium-Length Novel Collection”. In the Introduction of this book, Weng Nao indicated: “this story is a gap of human history in certain period for a famous port”. Weng Nao also explained that he want to present this work to the children lost fathers, the fathers left children, and unfortunate brothers. This thesis takes this new found Weng Nao’s work to interpret the style and features of his novels in a later stage. It will analyze from his views of creation, topics of creation and style of art. In the appendix of this thesis is the Chinese translation of new found Weng Nao’s medium-length novel, Streets with a Port (Total 46 sections) to provide Taiwanese researchers for reference.
