This study uses a concept of value co-creation in the functional textile field to explore both the current competitiveness and future business direction of Taiwan's functional textile industry within the global market. The primary theoretical basis of industrial clusters, value creation models and value co-creation are used to explore the industry’s evolution from a “value-chain” perspective to a “value-ecosystem” perspective while co-creating value through mutual competition and cooperation. Finally, with support of the government and the unions, the industry can optimize its structure by promoting smart manufacturing and develop Taiwan's brand as a functional textile pacesetter enabling it to quickly respond to market changes, enhance its visibility in the consuming market, and become the real leader of the functional textile world.
