中文摘要 數位建築的蓬勃發展,使設計形式逐漸脫離構造材料與製造施工,為設計落實建造帶來衝擊。數位製造則提供突破目前設計與施工建造斷層的契機。本研究採用行動實作法,藉由實作探討建立建築設計、數位工具與製造技術間的緊密合作關係。目的在體認並理解數位製造與構築對設計階段的影響,並將過程關聯至設計思維提出從設計、製造到實踐的參考基礎。
研究中以相關文獻與案例分析,整理歸納數位製造的設計流程分為設計、生產製造與實體構築三階段。設計階段在進行材料、構造、構件、接頭與結構的細部設計同時,便將製造與實體構築當中涵蓋的問題納入設計思考。注意事項包含選擇材料與機具、刀具路徑的設定、參與對象影響細部設計發展、預組裝驗證對細部設計及加工刀路的回饋修正、組裝場地與物料間的管理問題。
以此流程為基礎透過三個設計實作的操作經驗,探討其對於不同構築形式與加工方式的應用。三個實作皆因製造機具的加工限制(二軸與三軸)而選擇以平板材料,如壓克力與夾板、木心板類材料,並影響細部設計與構造細部的發展。實作一以平面構件來呈現面狀拼貼的外觀形體,但對於構件與接頭並沒有產生相應的細部設計回饋。實作二則採剖面堆疊配合木作榫卯的接合方式發展細部,顯示具經濟且有效率的構造生產策略。實作三更以平面材料示範面狀拼貼結合摺疊,使構造整合裝飾性與結構性,顯示出構造形式的發展並不囿於製造機具與材料的選擇。實作操作的結果突顯出過去設計者無須知曉的營造細節,為自力營造保障建築結果符合設計要求的關鍵因素。
研究成果由實作探討發現數位製造的設計流程,其設計、生產製造與實體構築三階段間的反覆回饋為設計進展的主要因素。回饋機制有三⑴生產製造的設計回饋,因加工限制與材料特性調整細部設計,且首要考量材料特性;而製造機具與材料有最佳配合的構造形式,但不侷限其發展的可能。⑵實體構築的設計回饋,參與對象的支援程度影響細部設計發展,以預組裝來驗證並確保設計能準確無誤地實踐。⑶實體構築的製造回饋是針對自力營造專案,構件與組裝場地的依存關係影響構件數量、尺寸與組件尺寸;構件以預組裝驗證並調整刀路設定而使誤差在容許值內。
本研究對數位製造的設計流程探討處於初步階段,未來更可在設計階段直接結合結構系統與構築細節發展更多元的建築樣貌。此外,也希望藉此彰顯新時代從做中學的重要。
英文摘要 Digital fabrication is a promising technology that may reduce the gap between architectural design and construction, particularly in the context of architectural education. With this in mind, the thesis investigates a design process that incorporates knowledge and skill of digital fabrication. Through literature survey and case studies, a digital-fabrication informed design process is proposed. The process is further examined through three design-build projects to gain insights.
The digital-fabrication informed design process is a three-stage process, including design, manufacturing and construction. It is not a linear process. There are key feedback loops between stages. Design-build project 1 explored feedback loops between the design stage and the manufacturing stage. Design-build project 2 investigated feedback loops between the construction stage and manufacturing stage, as well as design stage. With the experience of first two projects, design-build project 3 paid close attentions to all feedback loops and achieve an almost flawless execution from design through manufacturing to construction.
Through the experimentation of design-build projects, the research concludes that key success of a digital-fabrication informed design process lies in the feedback loops, which should be continuous and iterative. There are three threads of feedbacks: (1) feedbacks between manufacturing and design; (2) feedbacks between construction and design; and (3) feedbacks between construction and manufacturing. In addition, the insights gained from design-build projects hope to illustrate a “learning through making” process in architectural education.
